I get sales bonuses. Don't really have a problem with them either.

Without a good sales force, almost any company is sunk.

But I made the mistake of choosing a career path that landed me in a company's cost center, not it's revenue center. So anything I could ever possibly do in my career costs money, it doesn't generate any.

If I do my job really well, I can manage some hefty cost-avoidance, but that's about it. And avoided costs are usually so buried in the income statement and balance sheet that no one ever notices them anyway.
